STAALION — Space Threats Analysis based on Automated reaL-time In-situ capabilities and Onboard processing decentralized Network — is an innovative project funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF) in 2023.
As space becomes a critical domain for Europe’s infrastructure and security, the threats targeting satellites and assets in orbit are rapidly increasing. STAALION addresses this by pushing the frontiers of Space Domain Awareness (SDA).
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Enhance real-time detection and characterization of space threats
Introduce in-situ surveillance and onboard processing capabilities
Extend current space object identification systems
Provide faster, more accurate situational awareness
Support the EU’s strategic autonomy in space operations
